Webtoon says it will expand its creator programs in 2026, adding a residency, new ways for Canvas artists to earn, and a better performance dashboard.
In short: Webtoon says it will expand its creator programs in 2026, with new support and planned new ways for Canvas comic creators to earn money.
Webtoon announced a major expansion of its Creator Programs starting in 2026. The focus is on Canvas, which is Webtoon’s part of the platform where people upload their own comics.
The rollout starts in Q1 2026 with a new Creator Residency program. Webtoon says this will offer hands-on help, networking, help with conventions and events, and educational resources to support creators as they grow their careers.
Webtoon also said Canvas will get new monetization features, which are tools that help creators get paid. This comes after earlier backlash from creators about the scrapped Creator Rewards Program. Webtoon said it will share more details about these earning tools in early 2026.
Creators will also get an improved performance dashboard, which is like a report card for a series. Webtoon says it will show clearer insights, such as audience engagement, meaning how many people are reading, reacting, or otherwise interacting with a comic.
Webtoon’s Chief Strategy Officer Yongsoo Kim said creators are the “heart of WEBTOON,” and that the company wants to invest in both new and established talent.
Webtoon also mentioned it has been building AI products to reduce creator workloads and improve content quality, including AI-driven recommendations in its app and website (suggestions that work like a “you might also like” shelf at a bookstore). However, the announcement did not confirm an AI-powered translation tool specifically for Canvas creators.
For many independent comic artists, getting discovered and getting paid are the hardest parts. If Webtoon’s promised earning options and clearer analytics arrive as described, Canvas creators could have more practical ways to build an audience and make their work sustainable.
