Robot maker Unitree is seeking a Shanghai STAR Market IPO for about 4.2 billion yuan, not $900 million, as investors weigh humanoid robot bets.
In short: Unitree Robotics is preparing a Shanghai STAR Market IPO to raise about 4.2 billion yuan, roughly $610 million, not $900 million.
Unitree Robotics, a Chinese robot maker, has filed to list on Shanghai’s STAR Market, a stock exchange board focused on technology companies. Its prospectus, the official IPO filing, says it aims to raise about 4.2 billion yuan, which is about $608 to $619 million depending on exchange rates.
Some coverage has described the raise as about $900 million, but that figure does not match the amount in the filing. Reports based on the prospectus consistently use the 4.2 billion yuan number.
Regulators have moved quickly. The Shanghai Stock Exchange accepted Unitree’s application on March 20, 2026, and the exchange said the company cleared the listing review on June 1. China’s securities regulator approved the registration on July 2 to 3, 2026, and the final price and trading date have not been announced yet.
This IPO is being watched as a real money test of interest in humanoid and “embodied AI” robots, meaning robots that use AI software to move and act in the physical world (like a “brain” controlling a body). Unitree says it will use most of the money for research and building more manufacturing capacity, including about 2.02 billion yuan for improving its robot software and AI models. For everyday people, the key question is whether investors believe these robots will become useful products beyond impressive demos.
