Prosecutors say suspects forged documents to hide shipments of Nvidia-powered AI servers to China, despite US export rules.

Taiwan has indicted nine people in a case tied to shipments of powerful AI servers to China, according to Reuters. Prosecutors in Keelung did not release names, but reports say the group includes an Nvidia senior manager and two Supermicro employees based in Taiwan. They were charged with breach of trust and document forgery.
The case centers on US export controls, which are rules that limit what technology can be sold to certain countries. Since 2022, the US has required a special license to export some advanced computer chips to China, for national security reasons.
Taiwan’s investigation found that the group allegedly tried to make it look like 130 B300 servers were installed and used at a Taiwan facility. Prosecutors say 74 of those servers were actually exported and delivered to customers in China. The remaining 56 were also intended for China, but Taiwanese customs blocked them after spotting irregularities, Reuters reported.
The news comes after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang previously criticized Supermicro’s compliance efforts, saying partners must follow export rules. Supermicro has said it is cooperating with investigators and has made changes, including firing employees linked to the alleged scheme.
AI servers are like warehouses full of computing power. They can help companies build and run advanced AI systems. This case shows how hard it can be to enforce export rules, especially if people falsify documents that are supposed to prove where the equipment ended up.
