Runware says it will build modular AI data center pods on an assembly line in Romania, aiming to install and set them up for customers within 48 hours.
In short: Runware says it is building a factory to produce ready-to-install AI data center “pods” and get them running at customer sites within 48 hours.
Runware, an AI infrastructure company, told TechCrunch it wants to manufacture modular data centers in a factory and ship them to customers like a prebuilt kit. A data center is basically a building full of powerful computers that runs online services, including AI.
The company’s product is a “pod”, which is a prefabricated (factory-made) unit that can be delivered to a site and connected to power and internet. Runware says the goal is to bring a pod online within 48 hours, meaning the installation and setup time once it arrives, not the time to build it.
Runware says it already has two factories in Romania. One has been used for a few years, and a second one is expected to be finished within months and start operating early next year. The company says a pod used to take about three weeks to build, and it expects that to drop to one day as production ramps up.
Runware also shared a long-term target. By 2028, it aims to scale production to 30 megawatts of data center capacity per day. Megawatts are a way to describe how much electrical power the site can support, like how big the “engine” is for running computers.
AI companies need more computing power fast, but building traditional data centers can take years. Factory-built pods are like buying a finished room and placing it on your property, instead of building the whole house from scratch. The open question is whether Runware can deliver at its promised speed and volume, while lining up parts, money, and suitable sites.
