Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams are taking over Robin Williams’ Instagram to share real photos and clips and push back on AI-made voice and video copies.
In short: Robin Williams’ children have brought his inactive Instagram account back to share authentic posts and respond to growing AI-made fakes of his voice and likeness.
Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams say they are taking over their late father’s Instagram account. The profile had been inactive since Robin Williams died in 2014.
In a new post, the siblings said they want the account to be a “safe, trusted place” for stories, photos, videos, and memories that reflect his legacy “with authenticity, warmth, and care.”
Zelda Williams also addressed the change on her own Instagram. She said the goal is to fight “rampant AI abuse” of her father’s voice and likeness on social media. “Likeness” means someone’s recognizable face, voice, or look. (Think of it like a digital impersonation that can be pasted into new videos.)
The Verge noted that some AI tools try to block people from making videos or images of celebrities. But those limits can be bypassed. The article points to past examples where AI video tools were used to generate clips featuring famous people or copyrighted characters, and to reports about sexualized deepfake videos. Deepfakes are AI-made media that can look or sound like a real person.
For regular people, this is about trust online. If AI can easily copy someone’s face or voice, it becomes harder to tell what is real, and scams and harassment get easier. The Williams family is trying a simple counter move: create a clear, official place for real clips and memories, so fans have something reliable to compare against.
