Restate raises $20 million for software that keeps AI agents on track

What happened

Restate, a startup based in Berlin, announced a $20 million Series A funding round led by Singular. Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures also joined the round.

Restate makes “durable workflow infrastructure,” which is software that helps multi-step digital jobs finish correctly. Think of it like a checklist that saves your place, so if the computer crashes or the internet drops, the work can continue from the last confirmed step instead of starting over.

The company says this matters more now because of AI agents, which are AI systems that can carry out tasks across many steps, like searching for information, calling tools, and writing outputs. These agent tasks can take longer and behave less predictably than typical software, so tracking what happened at each step helps make results repeatable.

Restate says it has signed multiple customer contracts in the six and seven figures in recent months. It also counts Replit as a customer.

With the new funding, Restate plans to hire sales and marketing staff, add more engineers, and expand its presence in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Why it matters

As more companies try to use AI agents for real work, they also need stronger “plumbing” to keep those automated processes from breaking halfway through. Restate is aiming to sell that reliability layer, and it is also taking on a larger competitor, Temporal, which recently announced a much bigger funding round.
