A report says Apple plans a new Siri in iOS 27 that works more like a chat app, can act inside Apple apps, and may let users pick other AI chatbots.
In short: A report says Apple plans to rebuild Siri in iOS 27 so it works like a full chatbot, and it may let people choose which AI chatbot helps answer Siri requests.
Apple is working on a major Siri update for iOS 27, which is expected in fall 2026, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman in a report covered by The Verge. The project is reportedly called “Campos.” It would move Siri from being mostly a voice assistant to being a text and voice chatbot, like a chat app you can talk to.
Today, Siri can hand some questions off to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The report describes that as a temporary add on while Apple builds its own system using Apple Foundation Models, which are Apple’s in house AI models (the software “brains” that generate answers).
The report also says iOS 27 could let users connect Siri to other chatbots they download from the App Store, such as Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude. This would be similar to choosing a different search engine in a browser, but for AI answers.
Apple’s roadmap is said to include an earlier step in spring 2026 with iOS 26.4, adding more “context” to Siri. In plain terms, Siri would get better at understanding what is on your screen and pulling helpful details from apps like Mail, Messages, and Calendar.
If this happens, Siri could become more useful for everyday tasks inside Apple apps, like summarizing an email, answering questions about a message thread, or helping with a timer or a call. It also suggests Apple may give people more choice, so Siri is not tied to only one AI provider.
