A report says Apple plans to unveil a new smart home hub called HomeView, plus updates to Apple TV and HomePod mini.
In short: A report says Apple will announce a new smart home hub called HomeView on Tuesday.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, cited by TechCrunch, says Apple is preparing to unveil a product called HomeView. It is described as a smart home hub, meaning a central device that can control other connected devices in your home, like lights, locks, and thermostats.
According to the report, HomeView will be powered by Siri and will include a screen. It will also use an A18 chip, which is the main processor inside the device (like the engine in a car). Gurman says Apple plans two versions, one meant to sit on a countertop and another designed to be mounted on a wall.
The report adds that Apple will also show updated versions of two other home products on Tuesday, the Apple TV set-top box and the HomePod mini. Gurman previously reported that Apple is also planning a partnership with LG for a smart lock, a thermostat, and a doorbell.
Many people already have a mix of smart home gadgets, but they do not always work smoothly together. A single home hub with a screen could make it simpler to manage them, like having one remote control instead of three. The report also suggests Apple is trying again to get more attention in the smart home market after limited traction with HomeKit and the HomePod speaker.
