Polymarket opens Situation Room pop-up bar in Washington, DC

Polymarket opened a pop-up bar in DC built around prediction market screens, but its opening night was hit by power and internet problems.

About 3 hours ago•Product Launches

In short: Polymarket opened a pop-up bar in Washington, DC, meant to showcase its prediction market bets on big public questions, but the opening ran into major technical problems.

What happened

Polymarket opened a pop-up bar called “The Situation Room” on March 20, 2026. It took over the Proper 21 location on K Street in Washington, DC. The space was designed around screens and interactive displays for watching prediction market bets.

A prediction market is like a stock market for yes or no questions. People place bets on outcomes, and the price moves based on what bettors think will happen.

The grand opening had serious issues with power and internet service. A media preview was delayed by about 90 minutes, and dozens of journalists reportedly waited outside in the rain under canopies.

When guests got inside, many of the flat screen TVs that were supposed to show live “situation monitoring” were still off. According to the report, the bar looked mostly normal, except for a large glowing globe with Polymarket branding and one working touchscreen.

That touchscreen let visitors browse bets on questions such as whether the European Union would pass a stablecoin ban, whether US national debt would exceed $40 trillion, and whether global average temperature would set a new record in 2026.

Why it matters

Polymarket is best known as an online place where people bet on political and economic outcomes. Opening a physical bar in DC suggests it wants to be part of the city’s political culture, not just a website. For regular people, it is also a reminder that many tech-driven services still depend on basic things like electricity and a reliable internet connection.
