Startup Poke offers an AI assistant you can use in iMessage, SMS, and Telegram to handle tasks like reminders and calendar help, without installing an app.
In short: Poke is a new AI assistant you can reach by sending a text message, and the company has raised an additional $10 million.
Poke, made by a startup called The Interaction Company of California, is offering an “AI agent” that works through messaging apps like iMessage, SMS, and Telegram. An AI agent is like a digital helper that can do tasks for you, not just answer questions.
Instead of downloading a new app, you start by visiting Poke.com and entering your phone number. From there, you can text Poke to do everyday things like plan your day, manage your calendar, track fitness goals, control smart home devices, and even do simple photo edits.
Poke also offers “recipes,” which are pre-made automations you can turn on with a click. Think of them like shortcuts on your phone, but for ongoing tasks, like “tell me if I need an umbrella in the morning” or “flag emails from my boss.” Some recipes connect to services people already use, including Gmail and Google Calendar, plus health apps and smart home products.
The company says it launched publicly in March. TechCrunch reports Poke has raised another $10 million on top of a $15 million seed round last year, and is valued at $300 million.
Many AI tools require new apps or complicated setup. Poke is trying to make this feel as familiar as texting a friend, which could make automated reminders and routines easier for more people to actually use.
