OpenAI is rebuilding ChatGPT so it can act more like a personal assistant that handles tasks across work and daily life, according to WIRED.
In short: OpenAI is reworking ChatGPT so it can act more like a personal assistant that carries out tasks, not just a chat box.
OpenAI is in the middle of a major redesign of ChatGPT, according to a WIRED report. The company wants to move beyond the simple chat screen that answers questions and writes text.
The goal is to make ChatGPT feel more like an AI agent, meaning software that can take actions for you (like a helper who not only gives advice, but also does the errand). In practice, that could mean ChatGPT doing more of the steps involved in a task, across both personal life and work.
OpenAI has been calling this direction a “super app.” That phrase usually means one app that combines many services in one place, like a Swiss Army knife that replaces several separate tools.
WIRED also notes that Thibault Sottiaux, who helped build OpenAI’s AI coding business through its Codex product, is now overseeing this broader overhaul of ChatGPT. OpenAI has also discussed unifying the ChatGPT and Codex experiences more closely, as part of making one core product.
A more active ChatGPT could be more useful, but it also raises practical questions. People will want to know what it can do on its own, what it needs permission for, and how it handles personal information while doing tasks. The next updates to ChatGPT should make it clearer whether OpenAI can deliver a single app that people trust for everyday work.
