OpenAI is running a new ChatGPT ad campaign with warm, retro storytelling, aiming to make the tool feel familiar during rising public concern about AI.
In short: OpenAI has started its biggest-ever advertising campaign for ChatGPT, using warm, retro-style stories that show the chatbot helping with everyday life.
OpenAI has launched a major new brand campaign for ChatGPT in the United States and the United Kingdom. The ads focus on small, familiar moments like cooking, studying, planning trips, and doing creative projects.
Instead of explaining how the technology works, the campaign leans into feelings and personal stories. Some of the creative work was shot on 35mm film, which gives it a look similar to older home movies, warm, slightly grainy, and low tech.
The campaign is running in high-profile places, including NFL Primetime, and it will appear on TV and streaming services, on outdoor ads, and through paid social and influencer partnerships. Industry reports say this is a larger media push than OpenAI’s earlier Super Bowl ad.
One part of the effort is aimed at students. It presents ChatGPT as something a student can keep coming back to even after exams, like a long-term helper rather than a one-time study tool. The student ads use hand-drawn illustrations mixed with a simple interface (the on-screen buttons and text), which is meant to feel more human and less cold.
Many people in the US are uneasy about AI because of concerns like job loss, misinformation, bias, and privacy. This campaign appears designed to make ChatGPT feel more like a normal household tool, like a helpful notebook you can talk to, and less like a mysterious new system.
