ChatGPT can now connect to apps like Spotify, DoorDash, Uber, and Canva so you can do common tasks from inside a chat. Access is limited by region.
In short: ChatGPT now lets people connect certain apps, like Spotify, DoorDash, Uber, and Canva, so the assistant can help with tasks using those accounts.
OpenAI is offering “app integrations” inside ChatGPT. This means you can link your account from another service to ChatGPT, then ask ChatGPT to do things that normally take a few steps in the other app.
For example, with Spotify connected, you can ask ChatGPT to create a playlist and it will show up in your Spotify app. With DoorDash, you can ask for a meal plan and add ingredients to your cart, then review and pay in DoorDash. With Uber, you can set up a ride request in ChatGPT, then finish the booking and payment in the Uber app.
To start, you log into ChatGPT and either type the name of the app at the beginning of your message, or you go to Settings, then Apps and Connectors, and connect from there. You can disconnect apps later from the same settings area.
OpenAI and its partners also list other integrations, including Booking.com and Expedia for travel search, Canva and Figma for design work, Quizlet for study materials, and Zillow for home search. The rollout is currently limited to the U.S. and Canada, and users in Europe and the U.K. are excluded for now.
Linking apps can save time because ChatGPT can act like a helper that can move between services for you (like giving one assistant the keys to several different rooms). But it also means sharing data from those apps with ChatGPT. TechCrunch notes that, for Spotify, this can include playlists and listening history, so it is worth checking what permissions you are agreeing to before connecting.
