Elon Musk described Anthropic’s Colossus computing deal as short term, but SpaceX’s S-1 filing describes monthly payments through May 2029.
In short: Elon Musk said Anthropic’s deal for SpaceX related computing power is a 180 day lease, but SpaceX’s own public filing describes payments through May 2029.
Elon Musk posted on X that SpaceX “has not committed to leasing Colossus for years.” He said it is a 180 day lease, with a 90 day notice for either side to cancel after that.
This comment is about a recent agreement where Anthropic, an AI company, pays to use large amounts of computing power. Computing power here is like renting lots of very fast computers so an AI system can be trained and run.
TechCrunch reports that Musk’s description conflicts with SpaceX’s S-1 filing, a document companies file when they plan to sell shares to the public. In that filing, SpaceX says the customer “has agreed to pay a monthly fee through May 2029,” and it repeats similar language in multiple places. The filing also says the agreement can be ended by either party with 90 days’ notice.
xAI, Musk’s AI company that is tied to the broader “Colossus” computing effort, did not respond to TechCrunch’s request for clarification.
This matters because public filings are meant to give investors a clear, consistent picture of a company’s major contracts. If a deal is described one way on social media and another way in official paperwork, it can create confusion about how stable the revenue is and whether the customer can count on the service.
