Microsoft unveils a new Copilot app with chat, coding, and Autopilot

What happened

Microsoft says it is officially unveiling a new Copilot “super app” after teasing it last month. The app is redesigned to bundle three features into a single place: chat, coding, and agents.

The app is organized into three tabs: Home, Code, and Autopilot. Home is the main starting screen. Microsoft says it combines Copilot Chat and a work feature called Cowork, and it will also add a “Today” view that acts like a personal dashboard for things like important emails, meeting requests, and Teams messages.

The Code tab is a notable addition because Copilot has mainly been aimed at office and business workers. Microsoft says Code will let people create simple internal tools like an app, a tracker, a dashboard, or an automation and share them with co-workers. It uses the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot, a popular coding assistant, and Microsoft says it runs in a “sandbox” (a locked-down test area, like letting someone build in a playpen instead of the whole room) and can be hosted inside a company’s own account.

Microsoft is also renaming Scout, an AI personal assistant it announced earlier this year, to Autopilot. The company describes Autopilot as a “digital teammate,” meaning it can act more like a helper that takes on tasks, not just a chat window.

Why it matters

For many people, AI tools are spread across different apps and screens. Microsoft is trying to make Copilot feel more like a single control panel, so you can ask questions, build small tools, and run task helpers without switching products.
