Microsoft is shutting down Copilot features on smart TVs during 2026, based on a notice shown on an LG TV and reported by Windows Central.
In short: Microsoft plans to stop offering its Copilot assistant on smart TVs during 2026.
Microsoft is ending support for Copilot on smart TVs, including models from LG and Samsung that advertised Copilot access. Copilot is Microsoft’s AI assistant, meaning a chat style helper you can ask questions, similar to texting with a customer service rep.
The news did not come from a formal press release. It surfaced after an on screen notification appeared on a webOS powered LG TV owned by Windows Central reporter Zac Bowden.
The message said Microsoft “has recently decided to end support for Copilot functionality on all TVs,” and that the Copilot enabled feature on the TV is “no longer available and may stop functioning shortly.” The notice also said the feature is scheduled to be discontinued during 2026, but it did not give an exact date.
LG and Samsung first announced Copilot support for their newer smart TVs at CES 2025. On these TVs, Copilot was mainly used for chat, answering questions about what you were watching on screen, and suggesting shows and movies.
If you bought a TV partly because it included Copilot, this change means that feature may stop working before 2027. It is a reminder that some “built in” TV features rely on online services run by other companies, more like a streaming app than a basic TV input. When the service shuts down, the button can turn into a dead end.
