Microsoft reorganized its Copilot AI team after applications chief Rajesh Jha retired. Consumer and business AI groups now report under new leaders.
In short: Microsoft is reorganizing the leaders behind Copilot, and long-time executive Rajesh Jha is retiring.
Microsoft announced a leadership reshuffle in the group that runs Copilot, its AI assistant built into products like Microsoft 365. The changes were described as a broad revamp of the Copilot organization.
Rajesh Jha, the CEO of Applications, is retiring after more than 35 years at Microsoft. Some reports suggested he would be away for “several weeks,” but other reporting describes this as a full retirement with a succession plan.
As part of the new setup, Microsoft is combining its consumer AI work and its commercial AI work under Jacob Andreou, a former Snap executive. Several leaders, including LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky, Microsoft 365 infrastructure lead Perry Clarke, and Copilot executive Charles Lamanna, have begun reporting directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. They join a new Copilot Leadership Team along with Andreou and Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman.
Suleyman’s role is also being narrowed. He is expected to focus on “superintelligence” and frontier AI models, meaning the most advanced models Microsoft is trying to build.
Microsoft’s stated direction is to move Copilot beyond chat. The goal is more “agents,” which are AI tools that can take actions for you, like a helper that not only suggests a plan but also carries out the steps.
Copilot already has about 15 million paying users, but that is a small slice of Microsoft 365’s overall customer base. How Microsoft organizes this team will shape what Copilot can do next, how it shows up in everyday apps, and how fast new features reach people at work and at home.
