Meta is building AI tools that help people find products and get tailored suggestions inside its apps, with rollouts planned through 2026.
In short: Meta is developing AI-powered shopping assistants inside Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with a phased rollout planned throughout 2026.
Meta is working on “agentic” shopping tools, which means the AI can take steps on its own to help you shop, instead of only showing basic recommendations. Meta says the goal is to make it easier to discover products and to give more product and brand information while you browse.
Unlike traditional shopping suggestions that mainly copy what similar people clicked, these tools are designed to interpret what you mean. For example, if you say you want an outfit for a wedding or items to set up a small living room, the AI could scan Meta’s product catalog and suggest options based on your budget, delivery needs, sustainability preferences, and past purchases.
Meta is also leaning on the data it already has about users, like interests, posts you engage with, and social connections, to make these suggestions more personal. TechCrunch reports that Meta bought a company called Manus in December 2025 to strengthen its autonomous agent technology, and that more features will roll out in stages during 2026. Mark Zuckerberg has described 2026 as a key year for faster AI development at Meta.
If Meta succeeds, shopping inside social apps could feel more like talking to a helpful store clerk who remembers what you like over time. The tradeoff is that this kind of personalization depends heavily on user data, so privacy questions and clear controls for users will likely be a major part of the rollout.
