Meta is cutting Muse Spark prices for customers who let it use their prompts and outputs to improve future versions of the AI model.
In short: Meta is offering much lower prices for its Muse Spark AI model if customers agree to share what they type into it and what it replies.
Meta published pricing for Muse Spark, a new AI model it says is meant for coding and for running “agents” (AI helpers that can carry out multi step tasks, like a junior assistant following instructions).
Customers can choose a standard plan or a “contributor” plan. Under the contributor plan, Meta says it can use your prompts (what you type) and the model’s outputs (what it writes back) to help build future models.
The discount is large. TechCrunch reports it averages to about 95%. Meta’s pricing page lists one million input tokens at $1.25 on the standard plan versus $0.10 on the contributor plan. Output tokens are $4.25 per million on the standard plan versus $0.20 on the contributor plan. (Tokens are small chunks of text, like counting words by the scoop instead of one by one.)
The article also notes Meta has faced criticism over efforts to collect more training data. A separate initiative to track employees’ computer usage was paused in June, according to Reuters. Meta did not respond to TechCrunch’s questions about the new pricing model.
This makes the tradeoff very clear: pay more to keep your AI use private, or pay less and share it. For businesses, that choice can affect confidential work, like internal code, customer details, or strategy documents. It also shows how AI companies are competing not just on price, but on who can collect enough real world examples to make these AI helpers work better.
