Meta’s Muse app is beating ChatGPT’s early mobile download pace

In short: Early estimates suggest Meta’s new AI app, Muse, is growing faster on mobile than ChatGPT did right after its debut.

Meta recently launched Muse, an AI app that can connect with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. New estimates from Apptopia, a company that tracks app performance, suggest Muse is off to a stronger start than ChatGPT was when it first arrived on phones.

To make the comparison fair, Apptopia looked only at iPhone data in the U.S. and Canada, and only at the first 12 days after each app launched. In that matched view, Muse reached about 1.8 million downloads, compared with about 1.3 million for ChatGPT over the same time window.

Apptopia’s estimates also suggest Muse has more people using it each day. In the U.S., Muse was estimated at about 642,000 daily active users, compared with 231,000 for ChatGPT at the same point after launch. Even when looking only at iPhone users, Muse was estimated at 359,000 daily active users.

It is important to note these are third-party estimates, not Meta’s own numbers. Apptopia does not have access to Meta’s internal data, so the figures should be treated as informed guesses (like counting cars by watching traffic, not by checking the official registration list).

What to watch

Muse is only available in the U.S. and Canada, but it is on both iPhone and Android, while ChatGPT started on iPhone only. If Meta promotes Muse heavily inside its existing apps, Muse could keep climbing the download charts. Meta has not yet shared its own public adoption numbers.
