Iran names US tech company sites in the Middle East as targets

Iranian media listed regional offices and data centers tied to major US tech firms as potential targets, citing alleged military and intelligence links.

About 12 hours ago•Infrastructure

In short: Iran has publicly listed Middle East facilities linked to major US tech firms as potential targets, and some sites have already been hit.

What happened

Iran’s state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency published a list of offices and infrastructure tied to major US technology companies that it called potential targets in the Middle East. The list named Amazon, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, IBM, Oracle, and Palantir.

Iran described this as part of an expanding “infrastructure war.” In plain terms, it means attacks could shift from military targets to the systems that keep modern life and business running.

The list reportedly covers around 30 locations, including regional offices, data centers, and “cloud” systems. A data center is a building full of computers that stores and processes information, like a warehouse for the internet. “Cloud” services are rented computing and storage, like using electricity from the grid instead of running your own generator.

Why it matters

Many companies and governments in the region rely on these facilities for everyday services, including apps, online shopping, and workplace tools. If data centers or network hubs are damaged, it can cause outages, slowdowns, or loss of access for customers far beyond the immediate area.

The report also described Iran’s reasons for naming these targets. It pointed to alleged military and intelligence ties, including Israel’s Project Nimbus contract with Amazon and Google’s parent company, Alphabet, plus claims about cloud access, training, and policing tools.

Tasnim and related reporting said two Amazon data centers in the United Arab Emirates were hit on March 1, and a third in Bahrain was damaged by falling debris. Iran also warned that banks and financial institutions linked to the US and Israel in the region could be targeted.
