In a Wired interview, Twitch streamer Hasan Piker said he does not use AI tools and argued they can spread false info and replace jobs.
In short: Twitch streamer Hasan Piker says he does not use AI tools, and he worries they can spread false information and push people out of work.
Hasan Piker, a political commentator with a large audience on Twitch, shared details about his daily tech habits in a Wired interview. He said he streams for seven to eight hours a day, every day, and spends much of the rest of his time researching and planning.
Piker said he does not ask AI systems for help. He argued that relying on them can lead to “cognitive offloading,” which means people let a tool do their thinking for them (like using a calculator for every bit of simple math, then forgetting how to do it yourself). He also said AI systems can “hallucinate,” which is when they confidently make up wrong information, and that this can fuel misinformation.
He also criticized how companies use AI, saying it is often treated as a way to replace workers rather than reduce boring tasks. Piker added that he sees a lot of AI-made images online, including thumbnails using his face, and he associates much of it with political trolling.
Outside of AI, the interview showed how online life can be all-consuming even for someone who criticizes it. Piker reported an average of 7 hours and 8 minutes of daily screen time across Apple devices, and 22 hours and 14 minutes on Twitter in one week. He said he previously deleted Twitter because it made him angrier, but returned to it anyway.
Piker’s comments reflect a broader tension: AI tools are becoming more common, while concerns about accuracy, job loss, and over-reliance keep growing. Expect more public figures to take clear positions, either adopting AI openly or rejecting it on principle.
