Grok released the first seven minutes of an AI-generated Odyssey project, shared as Episode 1. The clip was made with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker.
In short: Grok has released the first seven minutes of an AI-generated take on “The Odyssey,” calling it Episode 1 of a series.
Grok, the AI product linked to Elon Musk’s xAI, posted a 7-minute video it says was made with its tool, Grok Imagine. The company is presenting the clip as “Episode 1 of our Odyssey series,” three months after Musk said Grok would release a full-length, “historically accurate” movie version of “The Odyssey.”
The video was shared on X and credits a “creative collaboration” with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker. The clip uses computer-made visuals and a voiceover narrator, meaning the images and audio were generated by software rather than filmed in the usual way (like using a camera and actors on set).
The release also lands in the shadow of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” which came out in July and has been a major box office success, including long sell-outs for Imax showings. Musk had previously criticized Nolan’s casting choices.
TechCrunch’s take on the Grok footage was mixed. It said some moments look realistic, like sailors crossing a sea, but the clip lacks emotional pull and interesting characters, and the dialogue feels stiff.
AI-made video is getting easier to publish, and companies are starting to test it with well-known stories that people already recognize. For everyday viewers, this raises simple questions, like how “real” a scene needs to look to be convincing, and whether a movie can feel human if it is mostly assembled by software.
