Google showed new Gemini features for Google TV, including visual answers, Google Photos search and edits, and voice-like controls for TV settings.
In short: Google previewed three Gemini-powered features for Google TV, and they will roll out to some TCL TVs first and more devices later in 2026.
Google used CES 2026 to show how Gemini, its AI assistant, will work on Google TV. The company highlighted three features: visual responses that fill the TV screen, Google Photos search and editing on the TV, and a more conversational way to change TV settings.
First, Gemini can answer questions with large, visual results, including images and video context. It can also show real-time sports briefs that take over the screen. For bigger questions like “How do black holes work?”, there is a “Dive deeper” option that gives a narrated, interactive explanation designed to be easier for families to follow.
Second, Google Photos will let you search your photo library using everyday language, like “photos of my daughter eating blue ice cream at the beach.” Google also previewed creative tools like Photos Remix, which applies art styles, plus options to create slideshows. Some advanced AI-made images and videos may require a Google AI Pro subscription.
Third, Gemini can adjust settings through natural requests. For example, you can say the screen is too dim or the dialogue is hard to hear, and the TV will suggest a change and show a small confirmation label.
These features will roll out first on select TCL devices that meet requirements like Android TV OS 14 or newer, a Google account, and an internet connection. Google says other Google TV devices should get them later in 2026.
For many people, this could make a TV feel more like a helpful guide than a pile of menus, like having a built-in assistant who can explain, find, and fix things while you keep watching.
