At Google I/O 2026, Google showed AI agents like Information agents and Gemini Spark. Most are limited to paid Gemini subscribers for now.
In short: Google introduced several new “AI agents” at I/O 2026, but many of them will be available first, or only, to paying subscribers.
Google used its I/O conference to show off more ways people could use “AI agents.” An AI agent is like a digital helper that can keep working in the background, instead of waiting for you to type a question each time.
One example is “Information agents,” which Google described as a new version of Google Alerts. These agents are meant to watch the web for topics you care about, like price changes, market trends, or weather warnings, and then notify you.
Google also introduced Gemini Spark, a personal assistant that connects with Google services like Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Workspace. Google said Spark could do things like summarize themes from newsletters, help track home items you need to restock, and help plan a group trip. Google also mentioned Android Halo, which is the name for how you receive notifications from Spark on Android.
Google said many of these tools are not widely available yet. Information agents are expected to come to Google Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S. this summer, Spark is planned “soon” for Ultra subscribers, and Halo is expected later this year. Another feature, “Daily Brief,” is rolling out in the U.S. to Ultra, Pro, and Plus subscribers.
For regular users, the biggest takeaway is that Google is adding more AI features across products, but the newest agent tools may feel confusing and out of reach at first. If these agents really save time, they could reduce the hours people spend sorting email and tracking tasks (like having an assistant who collects your paperwork before you sit down). But for now, many of the most advanced options are behind a monthly subscription, including a top tier that costs $100 per month.
