Android Authority reports Google may expand Gemini’s Call for Me so it can call friends and family with short messages, not just businesses.
In short: A report says Google may expand its “Call for Me” feature so Gemini can place simple phone calls to your personal contacts, like family and friends.
Google’s “Call for Me” is a feature that can handle certain phone calls for you. So far, it has been aimed at business calls, like contacting a store or service line.
According to Android Authority, signs of a broader version were found during an “APK teardown” (looking inside an app update file, like checking the parts inside a packaged product before it ships). The report describes a “Gemini Calling” intro screen with example requests such as, “Call Mom and tell her I will be 15 minutes late” and “Call John and ask if he is coming for dinner.”
Based on those examples, this would likely be limited to short, practical messages. Think of it like having your phone read out a text message as a quick call, rather than Gemini having a long, natural conversation on your behalf.
Android Authority also reports finding “granular permissions” for Gemini in individual apps. In plain terms, this could mean more detailed settings that let you decide what Gemini is allowed to do, including whether it can place calls. The report notes Google may not release these features publicly.
If this rolls out, it could help people reach contacts who do not check texts often, prefer phone calls, or still use a landline. It also raises everyday privacy questions, like whether you can block or opt out of getting automated calls made by someone else’s AI.
