GM says it will switch its stock listing to the Nasdaq on Nov. 17, 2026. The ticker stays GM and shareholders do not need to do anything.
In short: General Motors says it will move its stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq starting November 17, 2026.
General Motors, often called GM, has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange for 115 years. The company now plans to transfer its listing to the Nasdaq Global Select Market. Nasdaq trading is expected to begin on November 17, 2026.
GM said its ticker symbol will stay the same, which is GM. The company also said current shareholders do not need to take any action.
GM framed the move as part of a technology-focused strategy. The company has been talking more about spending on software, artificial intelligence (AI, computer systems that can do tasks that usually need human judgment), and automated driving features.
For most people, this is mainly a change of venue, like moving a store from one mall to another. It does not change what GM makes or how its business works. Still, the Nasdaq is home to many technology companies, and GM says the shift could make its stock eligible for possible inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 Index, which is a well-known list of large companies on the exchange. Eligibility does not mean GM will be added, since the index has its own rules.
