Elgato Stream Deck 7.4 lets AI assistants trigger your custom actions

In short: Elgato’s Stream Deck 7.4 update adds support for Model Context Protocol, so AI assistants can run your Stream Deck actions for you.

What happened

Elgato released Stream Deck software version 7.4 with support for Model Context Protocol, also called MCP. MCP is a shared “connector” that helps an AI assistant find available actions in another app, like looking at a menu before you place an order.

With this update, AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, and NVIDIA G-Assist can discover and trigger Stream Deck actions using voice or text. Stream Deck is the software used to control Elgato’s button panels that streamers and creators often use for shortcuts, like muting a microphone, changing scenes, or launching apps.

Elgato says you still set up actions the same way inside the Stream Deck app. MCP simply adds a new way to trigger them.

How it works

Users turn on MCP inside Stream Deck settings, then add the shortcuts they want into a new Stream Deck profile called “MCP Actions.” Only actions placed in that profile are exposed to the AI assistant, and other Stream Deck profiles stay private.

To connect everything, users also install a small local “bridge” from Elgato called the MCP Server. A local bridge is like a receptionist on your computer that passes requests between the AI assistant and Stream Deck. Then the user points their AI tool to that bridge using the tool’s setup steps.

Why it matters

For people who use Stream Deck often, this could reduce the need to press physical buttons for routine tasks. It also makes it easier to trigger complex setups, like a multi-step broadcast or a game hotkey, by simply asking an AI assistant to do it.
