TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 will feature Clay CEO Kareem Amin explaining the growing “GTM engineer” role and how AI is changing sales and marketing work.
In short: More tech companies are hiring “GTM engineers,” and Clay CEO Kareem Amin will explain the role at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026.
A job title that was rare a couple of years ago is showing up more often in tech: the GTM engineer. “GTM” stands for “go to market,” which is a company’s work to find customers and sell to them.
TechCrunch says GTM engineers use AI and automation to turn repetitive sales and marketing tasks into repeatable systems. Think of it like building a simple machine that does the same steps every time, instead of having people redo the steps by hand.
Clay, a company that makes tools for sales and growth teams, says it coined the term in 2023. Clay also points to about 100 GTM engineering job listings appearing each month, including roles at companies such as Cursor, Lovable, and Webflow.
Kareem Amin, Clay’s co-founder and CEO, is set to speak about this shift on the AI Stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 in San Francisco, which runs October 13 to 15. The session is titled “The GTM Engineer: How AI Created Tech’s Next Big Job Category.”
If more companies adopt this approach, some teams may hire fewer people for manual tasks like researching leads and copying data between tools. Instead, they may look for people who can set up automated workflows and keep them running, similar to how a store might invest in self-checkout systems and need staff to manage and improve them.
