OpenAI says India is the biggest market for ChatGPT Images 2.0, while global growth looks modest, with download spikes in a few countries.
In short: ChatGPT Images 2.0 is catching on fastest in India, while overall growth elsewhere has been relatively small so far.
OpenAI says India has become the largest user base for ChatGPT Images 2.0, its newer feature for making images from text prompts (a prompt is the instruction you type, like a recipe for the picture). The company says early users in India are mostly using it for personal and creative images, such as avatars, stylized portraits, and fantasy themed pictures.
OpenAI also says the tool is better at putting readable text into images across multiple languages, including non Latin scripts like Hindi and Bengali. Think of it like a poster maker that is less likely to scramble the words.
Outside India, third party data reviewed by TechCrunch suggests a more mixed response. Sensor Tower data shows ChatGPT app downloads rose 11% week over week after the launch, but daily active users and sessions were up only about 1%. Similarweb data shows global web traffic to ChatGPT rose around 1.6% over the same period.
Some countries did see sharper jumps in downloads during the rollout. Sensor Tower reported week over week download increases of up to 79% in emerging markets including Pakistan, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
It is worth watching whether these early spikes turn into regular use, or fade after the initial curiosity. It also suggests a wider pattern, where image making tools may grow fastest in places where people want easy ways to create social media ready visuals and where support for local languages matters.
