Apple adds Siri AI features in iOS 27 for newer iPhones

What happened

Apple is rolling out a revamped version of Siri with iOS 27. Apple calls it Siri AI, and it is designed to handle more complex requests than the older Siri.

Many of the new features require newer iPhones, starting with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and later models. Wired reports this is because only these phones have the needed processing power built in (like having a faster engine that can do more work on the phone itself).

One key change is that Siri AI can use more “personal context.” It can scan what is on your phone, such as texts, emails, and calendar entries, and answer questions like when an appointment is. Wired says this processing stays on the device, meaning the data is not sent back to Apple.

Siri AI can also respond to what is on your screen without you taking a screenshot first. For example, it can summarize text you are reading in Safari, explain a settings option, or identify a landmark in a photo on a web page.

Apple is also adding writing and editing tools that work across apps, plus deeper control inside apps, like creating calendar events or switching playlists. There is also a new Siri app that stores your chat history and can sync it across Apple devices.

Why it matters

For everyday iPhone users, this could mean less tapping and searching, and more getting things done by asking in plain language. The main catch is that many people will need a newer iPhone to use these features.
