Users report Alexa Plus getting stuck saying or singing “lalala” for minutes. Amazon says it is a bug affecting a small number of users.
In short: Some Amazon Echo speakers running Alexa Plus are getting stuck repeating “lalala” for minutes, and Amazon says a fix is being worked on.
People have been posting reports on Reddit that Alexa Plus, the newer version of Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, sometimes starts saying or singing “lalala” on repeat. In some cases, it happens in the middle of a normal conversation with the speaker. Users say it can go on for several minutes.
Several posters have shared videos showing Echo speakers doing this, including clips later shared by other tech outlets. When users ask Alexa what it is doing, the assistant reportedly acts unaware, as if it does not “remember” the sound it was making. It is like a customer service phone line that suddenly plays a short hold tune, then insists it never did.
The Verge reports the issue has shown up across multiple Echo models, including the Echo Studio, a larger speaker that supports Alexa Plus. The reports have appeared repeatedly over the last few weeks.
Amazon has acknowledged the problem. In a statement shared with Android Authority, the company said it is a bug affecting “a small number of Alexa Plus” users, and that it is working on a fix.
