Looking across widely covered AI updates in 2026, the biggest developments have come as a cluster. They include major new AI model releases, huge funding rounds for leading AI labs, and new computer chips built to run AI systems at scale.

A repeated theme in those updates is a move toward “agentic AI.” An AI agent is like a helpful assistant who can take steps for you, not just answer questions.
