1Password launched a browser integration for Anthropic’s Claude that can use saved usernames and passwords to complete tasks, without showing them to the AI.
In short: 1Password has launched a browser integration that lets Anthropic’s Claude use your saved login details to finish online tasks, without Claude being able to view your passwords.
1Password announced “1Password for Claude,” a new feature that connects the 1Password password manager to Claude inside a web browser. A password manager is like a locked digital notebook that stores your usernames and passwords.
With this integration, users can allow Claude to complete multi-step tasks that normally require signing in, like booking travel or managing online accounts. The idea is that Claude can keep going without you stepping in just to type a password.
1Password says Claude does not get to actually see your passwords. Instead, 1Password uses what it calls a “zero-exposure security framework,” which is a setup where the password is sent through a protected path and placed into the website only when needed. It is similar to handing a valet a key that starts the car but does not let them copy the key.
Access is granted one task at a time. 1Password says users can approve or deny each request with a single biometric prompt, like Face ID or Touch ID. As an extra precaution, 1Password says it scans the page after each autofill to make sure nothing is left exposed before Claude continues.
1Password for Claude is available now on Mac for 1Password customers on individual, family, and business plans.
More AI tools are trying to do actions for you, not just answer questions. Logging in is a major hurdle, so this kind of link could make AI helpers more useful, but it also raises safety questions. 1Password’s approach aims to reduce risk by keeping passwords hidden, while still letting the AI do the boring steps.
